Stephan Mairesse
Dog Trainer & Behaviorist — Specialist in dog behavior problems

Who I Am

What sets me apart from other dog trainers isn't a diploma — it's 30 years in the field, including 10 years living with dog packs at home, and daily pack observation ever since. My understanding of how a pack actually works isn't something I read. It's something I lived.
It's also the breadth of it: sixteen countries, from prestigious institutions to private clients.
I've worked on explosive-detection dog training alongside a commander of the RAID, the French National Police's special forces unit, run pet-therapy programs in French prisons, and trained future dog trainers and rescue staff.
Dog Training

My lessons work in three parts:
1. Understanding your dog — the essentials of canine ethology and behavior, and the house rules that follow from them, so you can communicate with your dog in a way he truly understands.
2. Getting obeyed — walking calmly at your side, coming back immediately whatever the situation, sit or down-stay wherever you need and for as long as you need, going to his place. Then, if you wish, more advanced commands: down at a distance, heel off-leash…
3. Solving behavior problems — my specialty: reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, aggression toward people or other dogs, fear, house soiling, barking, jumping on people, and chewing.
I don't use treats, and I never use pain — prong collars, shock collars and the like are completely out.
I only give private lessons, because no two owners and no two dogs have the same needs. Prices on request.
My Last DVD

"If knowing better means living with it better, the document proposed by Stephan Mairesse deserves to be distributed in our schools and accessible to all veterinarians." — Doctor Michel Baron, veterinarian
"Having a dog that behaves well in town and at home. Discover the rules of gentle dog education taught by Stephan Mairesse." — Doctor Régine Le Sann, veterinary behaviorist
This DVD will allow owners to live in perfect harmony with their companion, whatever his age, whatever his breed. Indeed, there is no age limit for training a dog, and irreversible situations are extremely rare. The rules governing hierarchy are common to all dog breeds. This DVD is intended for all owners and concerns all dogs.
